About Event

A full-day (and into the evening) adventure meet-up for those who don’t need the itinerary explained to them–for those who want something different. Hosted by two of the most dedicated explorers of the in-between–squeezing you through some of these spaces, while also enjoying them alongside everyone.

Calling all detectives of déjà vu, dead mall dreamers, retro roamers, classic cuisine connoisseurs, nostalgic yearners of yesteryear, and curators of the kitschy–those eagerly assembling for the eerie, the creepy, the quirky, the questionable, the random, the uncanny, the sometimes scary, the abandoned, and possibly even haunted–you’ve wandered into the right dimension. And, of course, this is Loiterfest, powered by Liminal Assembly, so be prepared to experience some..”liminal”?

If none of this interests you, please do not continue reading.

For those still reading, here’s the plan (well, at least what you need to know for now):

We will all meet at an unusual location, beginning in the far-east-end of the GTA. Exact coordinates will be shared closer to the date. From there, we move from east to west (and maybe a bit back east) through other parts of the Greater Area (the GTA without the 'T') and maybe even slightly beyond, mainly avoiding the downtown core, and stopping at some of our favourite, and what we believe are some of the most interesting spots, along the way. Most people drive past these without ever really taking them in, but this day is all about taking them in. You might already share some favourites with us, but hopefully we’ll be introducing you to plenty of new ones as well. Some might be overwhelming, some might be underwhelming, but they’ll all be something.

You might just say to yourself at times, “What are we even doing here?”

In regards to transportation and getting around, all that’s required to attend this event is one car per group of people attending. If you’ve got an 8-seater car, bring eight people if you want. If your car fits five people, bring up to five, or even just yourself–you just need a spot in a vehicle for the day to get around. Please ensure that everyone in the vehicle has registered for the event. Carpooling is ideal. Walkie-talkies (strongly) recommended.

Don’t forget to give your driver some gas money (or buy them some delicious food throughout the day)!

This is an entirely free event/meet-up to attend, as in there is no registration fee, and nobody is getting paid anything or making any money off of this. You will just be required to bring your own spending money for whatever you plan on eating or purchasing throughout the day. There will be plenty of opportunities to eat along the way, as many of the stops are food-related. Most of these places are cheap-eats, so order what you want, when you want–just come with enough spending money for whatever you plan to order.

On the topic of food, once we approach the evening, there will be an optional dinner at a restaurant that is a little bit elevated from the other food stops earlier in the day. It is not the most expensive place in the city, but it still might be considered a ‘$$$’ or ‘$$$$’ on Google. Think “classy old-school plaza supper club”. We recognize that not everyone might be up for this experience, it will be towards the end of our adventure together, it is an intimate setting, and there is a limited number of seats, which is why we have made this part of the journey optional (not that you are ever forced to do anything else throughout the day obviously).

With that being said, we hope to see as many of you there as possible.

Please let us know as soon as possible upon registering if you plan on attending this part of the evening, so we can make reservations accordingly. We will be able to accommodate on a first-confirmed, first-served basis.

In regards to the dress code for those attending the dinner, wear whatever you want throughout the day, or what you’ll be wearing to dinner, or feel free to bring separate clothes for dinner. It’s nothing too fancy, but maybe just a step up from a regular t-shirt/hoodie/jeans/running shoes (Ie. a polo, dark/dress sneakers, etc.).

From there, it might be close to the end, or it might not. Stick around and find out. Let’s see how "liminal" you really are.

This runs long. Twelve (+) hours is the floor. It can keep going. Nobody has to do anything they don’t want to do.

Adventures don’t have a set end time.

It ends when it ends.

When we’ve seen everything we have to see.

If this needs to make sense for you, it isn’t for you.

We’ll also be making recommendations of what to see/do at each site. Please feel free to take a picture(s) at each stop to show the rest of the group how much you accomplished by the end of the day.

This is not a conventional event or tour. It is a meet-up. It/we is/are not a business. No one is making any money off of this. Your hosts are attending the same way you are. We are not liable for anything that happens throughout the meet-up. You are responsible for yourself, your vehicle, and your decisions the entire time. The hosts and festival are not liable for anything. We are going on this adventure alongside you all.

About The Hosts

Travis and Adam are longtime friends of Liminal Assembly and explorers of the in-between — the overlooked miles, the places most people drive past without a second glance, the spots that sit quietly between the ordinary and the unexpected. They’ve been known to travel great distances just to stand in a parking lot that feels a little off, or to chase down a faded plaza, an unsettling suburb, or other residual corners of the map, constantly plotting locations on these maps as they go.

This is how they move through the world. They’re looking forward to welcoming you into their world for a day.
