About Event

Take a walk towards Toronto's waterfront and look at the street names: "Front Street". "Lakeshore Boulevard". "The Esplanade". "Queen's Quay." None of these streets touch the water. Why so much false advertising?

The reason is that, for the past 200 years, Toronto's waterfront has been steadily creeping outward. Through a process called land reclamation, we have transformed water into solid land, expanding our city into Lake Ontario.

On this tour, we will walk Toronto's original waterfront. In the process, you will discover that much of the ground you step on in this city was designed by the human hand. You won't be able to see the city the same way ever again.

This tour is designed with Deaf and hard of hearing participants in mind. American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters will be present for the full duration of the tour. If you have additional access needs or questions, please feel free to reach out in advance.

Location: The tour begins at Ireland Park, directly across from Billy Bishop Airport. It will end at Sugar Beach. Both the starting and ending point are a 25 minute walk from Union Station. Alternatively, you can take the 509 streetcar from Union Station to get to Ireland Park.

Price: This tour operates on a pay-what-you-can basis. There is a $2 booking fee to secure your spot on the tour. You are responsible for your own subway fare. At the end of the tour, you can pay whatever you feel the tour was worth (cash or card both accepted). Most guests choose to pay between $25 - $40 per person.

Accessibility: This tour takes place on flat ground and does not involve any stairs. It is therefore accessible for most types of mobility devices, strollers, etc. Please reach out if you have specific accessibility questions.
