Joss Murphy: Becoming A Local Legend
About Event
For ambitious internet folk, it can seem like one must choose one of two paths to build an entrepreneurial life — become an influencer, or go work on AI… something.
This talk explores a third path — rooted in high-trust local relationships and in-person influence — that is under-explored, under-documented, and just feels a bit more human.
We’ll talk about social capital’s crucial and historical role in underpinning the formalized economy, how modern loneliness is perhaps an issue of economics, and how the next wave of entrepreneurship will be deeply centred around in-person community building.
We’ll close out on a tactical note — real examples and steps you yourself can take to build a coalition of local collaborators and conspirators that help you achieve your wildest ambitions and (more importantly!!) build a life you love.
This event is the second in a new experimental series the Toronto Society Talks a place for Society members to present rigorously argued, original theses. Debate the answers to provocative questions and end the evening with a party among friends. Phones will be collected at the door.
