The Malls: Highway 427's Backrooms
About Event
Kipling Station: for many, it's just known as the end of the line. But slightly to the west are two streets--the East and West Malls--that were built to effectively be the backrooms for Highway 427 back in the 1950/1960s. This unique urban condition has led to an equally unique ecosystem of retail, community, residential, and semi-industrial use.
Join us for a walk around the neighbourhood, ending at a diner frozen in time for a late lunch (we will end here--if you'd like to eat, account for meal time and a 30 minute walk back to Kipling Station).
